London Tourist Trap Alert – How to save your money during London travel (updated 2020)

In this chapter i am going to share with you those worst tourist trap that found in London.

London Tourist Trap  No. 1: Aberdeen Steak House

Number 1 in our list is Aberdeen Steak House. it’s located on Leicester Square Piccadilly Circus and there might even be a few other branches around in Britain. I can guarantee you right now that no Londoner ever has set foot into AberdeenSteak House . It’s a tourist trap that serves you not great, overpriced Aberdeen Steak and it has nothing to do with the real best restaurants you can find in London

If you want the real steak experience in London there is only one restaurant to go to and that is called Flat Iron.  If you go there go early though because you might have to queue.

London Tourist Trap  No. 2: Westminster Bridge

The number in our list  is everything avoid everything on Westminster Bridge,   I get it you want to go there because you want to take a selfie withBig Ben or the London Eye or Westminster Abbey and because it’s cool beautiful.

I advise you that do not engage with all those magicians that live on the bridge  and make you guess where it is . They are there to distract you and while his/her gang member are they steal your money you.

Also,  we found that some street performers are there also to perform to attract your attention, while someone bump into you or stand behind you and sneak their hands into your pocket and stealing your wallet. I have walked across Westminster Bridge last week and there were thousands of tourists watching these performances.

Believe me , this is not the London experience. No Londoner. think that those magic shows are amazing. You have to be careful because like pickpockets and thieves around . So if you have to go to Westminster Bridge go there for a selfie with Big Ben and then move on without hanging around the area.

London Tourist Trap  No. 3: M&Ms world

I don’t necessarily rate any of them but I understand that if you come to London for the first time you might want to take a selfie with David Beckham and that’s really exciting . So I’m not gonna put this in the list I don’t necessarily rate them but the worst I guess attraction in this category for me is M&M’s world.

M&M’s is owned by Mars which is an American corporation that is selling you chocolate in you know literal like temple dedicated to their chocolate and you can go inside and buy chocolate . Don’t get me wrong I love M&M’s but again it has nothing to do with the real London experience.

A lot of museums like actual museums with actual British or London-based arts are free and beautiful, so please do not go to M&Ms world and spend too much  of your money on a pack of chocolate that’s in the Union Jack color. I would recommend John Soane Museum, it didn’t get many visitors at all. It is still free. Yes, free.

London Tourist Trap  No. 4: London Aquarium

Do not get me wrong, we  love  aquariums and  those in the world and I’m sure London Aquarium is also a very beautiful place but let’s face it London isn’t exactly known for its local fish that you can see in the aquarium because London is in fact not by the sea, so you know going to the London Aquarium and watching little Nemo’s swimming around has nothing to do again with thereal London experience at all. So avoid spending money to see Nemo he doesn’t even live in London

London Tourist Trap  No. 5: Oxford Street Shopping

My very last point number five is about shopping now this is Oxford Street.  If you want the London experience do not go to Oxford Street or Piccadilly Circus and go to the tourist shops and buy a mug with the Union Jack on it because there are actually roads next to Oxford Street that are so much cool and they have so much more shops that are more British than H&M which ison Oxford Street .

For example, Carnaby Street,  if you want to shop for gifts for friends at home, please try to avoid the tourist shops with the Union Jack.  Think about the difference when you come home and you bring your friend a mug with the Union Jack that you bought in a tourist shop in Piccadilly Circus versus some unique special postcard that you got from a vintage shop in Brick Lane in East London.

You really need to go there so that’s the difference so shopping in Oxford Street. You might ask what are the real London experience then, please stay tune and  check out more articles that we will share weekly to give you the first hand information how to travel smarter and save you hard earn money.
